In 2000 Nationwide, one in every 20 black men over the age of 18 is in prison compared to one in 180 white men
At the start of the 1990s, the U.S. had more Black men (between the ages of 20 and 29) under the control of the nation's criminal justice system than the total number in college
2. United States' incarceration rate is, according to official reports, the highest in the world
3. An estimated 56 percent of the male prisoners nationally are parents, with an average of two children each
Only half of incarcerated fathers were living with their youngest child prior to incarceration
4. About 70% of the 7.3 million children of incarcerated parents in the U.S. also end up in jail
5. That there is a program called school- based Probation Program that puts kids back in school
after committing a crime

Over 75% of parents in State prison reported a prior conviction; 56% had been incarcerated
